Rolling out Windows 10?

With Microsoft calling time on Windows 7 support from January 14, 2020, it’s critical that enterprises get all their applications to Windows 10 and avoid Extended Security Update (ESU) charges.

Every enterprises moving to Windows 10 will have applications that simply can’t migrate, meaning that some users will be stranded on an old Operating System, deprived of the benefits of Windows 10.

One of the most common reasons why an application can’t migrate is that it is simply not compatible with Windows 10, typically because they depend on old runtimes like Java 1.3 or .Net 2.0, have hard coded dependencies on the old Operating System, or lack install media.

In some cases the only known solution is to upgrade to the latest Windows 10 compatible, supported version. But upgrading is not always possible or practical.

Maybe an upgraded version doesn’t exist, the expertise needed with the application has left the business or the media to re-install the application lost. Or maybe upgrading is simply too expensive, the vendor no longer around, or the end-user experience so different in the upgraded version, associated retraining becomes a real issue.

In these cases the most common mitigation is to leave the application where it is, descope it – and its users – from the migration project, create what’s become known as ‘technical debt’ and reduce the benefits that the migration set out to deliver.

Not only does this create additional cost as to keep the most basic level of security enterprises will need to pay ESU charges to Microsoft which are slated to double year-on-year, it also generates additional support charges and deprives users of the productivity benefits delivered by Windows 10.

At Cloudhouse, using experience gained helping organisations in all sectors resolve these issues since 2009, we’ve created the ‘No App Left Behind’ approach to make sure that enterprises can leverage Windows 10 across every user, stay secure, and avoid unnecessary cost.

Take vital plug-ins based on old operating systems with you onto Windows 10 and continue to enjoy how they expand the power of your applications.

One Process. Package Once.

Cloudhouse is the industry-leading application compatibility packaging technology, helping hundreds of organisations across every sector migrate their desktop applications to modern Windows platforms without the need to upgrade, refactor or recode.

With the focus on ‘Evergreen’ IT as a result of Windows Servicing, and the move towards end-user computing in the cloud, Cloudhouse is the deployment technology of choice, offering key benefits over traditional application packaging technologies.

In the past, packaging service providers have been unable to process legacy applications, while legacy application specialists have not had the processes, scale or technology to process entire applications estates. This has left customers with no option but to support one technology for the majority of applications, and another for their legacy applications.

Until now. Our scalable application packaging service tooled to deliver Cloudhouse compatibility packaging at scale, uses a process designed to take applications from analysis to deployment rapidly and cost-effectively.

There is now a viable way to manage every application, for every Windows platform, desktop and server, using one technology.

Cloudhouse is also fully compatible with Windows Virtual Desktop and AWS Workspaces and AppStream 2.0.
